Readathon 2012

It is here! The 2012 Read-a-thon has begun! Students are encouraged to read and record even if they don't raise money. Each student brought home a letter and packet explaining the read-a-thon. New this year is the family plan. Be sure to check this information out if you have more than 1 child enrolled in either Hatley or Rothschild Elementary. In addition, if the buildings meet their goal, students will enter a drawing to become principal for the day! 3 students from each building (K-1, 2-3, & 4-5) will be able to spend the day with the building Principal!

The Read-a-thon ends on March 9. Packets, money, and logs must be returned during the week of March 12. Prizes will be awarded after Spring Break.

Remember to record, have fun, and read, Read, READ!

3..2..1..Blastoff!

The past 3 weeks have been an exciting and adventurous ride at Hatley Elementary!  Fourth grade students have been busy researching, writing, creating, and publishing information for Dream Flight 2011-2012.  With Saturn as their focus, I have learned much!  I have been able to help students create, collaborate, and publish awesome ideas! Students were able to research Saturn and answer questions that they had focused on.  In addition to their research, students learned how to create a "Glog" and a "Voki".  It was fabulous to work with these wonderful students.  Not sure about a Voki?  Here's a sample that I shared with the students!

Why not take a moment and visit their sites?  They will also be providing a "tour" of their solar system on January 26 for their peers and teachers.  In addition, February 17, the DC Everest Elementary Schools will have all their hard work creations showcased at Cedar Creek Mall in Kronenwetter.  Stop out and take a look - it will be truly out of this world!
